David
grew up in Santa Cruz, California on the Monterey Bay. For years he
painted the local wildlife sandpipers, gulls and pelicans. You can find
his work in homes throughout the Bay area. He then turned to tropical
birds and animals.
In
1984, he headed south to Los Angeles to work in the movie business on
set work and design. He found it hot, noisy and dirty so he started
showing his work in L.A. He leaned toward something soothing like the
koi paintings. This got him a lot of work and sales. The people enjoyed
the serenity and brought it to their homes. David got to meet many of
the worlds top koi breeders and David even got on the cover along with
an article in Koi U.S.A. the leading magazine in the field. This of
course generated him more work. Also in 1981, David and some artist
friends opened a gallery in Capitola California. Then went on and founded
the Capitoa Art and Wine Festival in 1983, now in it's 25th year.
David
then moved back to Santa Cruz and started the Japanese screen series
that is presented here with a few of the serene Victorian pond pieces
and one of his impressionistic paintings. The wall sculpture is an influence
of his move set days. The lighting was first done for interior design
trade he began working with. The collage is new and allows him to work
with color and composition maybe just for the fun of it.
